INSURING TRAILERS ON COMMERCIAL AUTO VS PERSONAL AUTO
On a personal auto policy liability extends to the trailer while it is attached to the vehicle it is being towed with. It doesn’t have to be listed on the personal auto policy unless you want physical damage coverage for that trailer.
On a commercial auto policy this is not the case. The trailer you own for your business MUST be listed on the commercial auto policy to have liability protection for that trailer.
If you hit another vehicle with that trailer there is no protection under your policy. You will be paying out of pocket for the damages you did to that vehicle. We urge any customer who has a commercial auto policy to list their trailer on their policy. The cost to insure a trailer on a commercial auto policy for liability is very minimal.
HOMEOWNERS URBAN MYTH
Most people believe that when disaster strikes and their home is damaged that they must wait for an adjuster to come look at their house before they do anything.
This is not true. When it comes to homeowners insurance act as if you have “no insurance”.
What would you do if you didn’t have insurance? You would take the tree off your house, and cover the roof with tarp to cover up any holes. You would clean up the water in your basement to the best of your abilities. Always do everything in your power to prevent further damage to your house. Any insurance company is happy to see you protect your property.
DISCOUNT DOUBLE CHECK
“You know who” isn’t the only one that can do a discount double check.
