How will the new health care law effect you?
On January 1, 2014 the most important components of the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” aka “Affordable Care Act” aka “Obamacare” takes effect.
Three main components of the law
- Most everyone will qualify for coverage regardless of health problems
- A requirement for most individuals to have health care insurance
- Expanded cost assistance
New and changed benefits
- Guaranteed coverage – No one can be denied coverage for health reasons.
- No annual or lifetime limits on how much a policy will pay for your medical bills
- Preventative care and annual checkups are covered without copays or deductibles
Individual Mandate
- Requires most Americans to have health care insurance or face a tax penalty
What if I can’t afford health care insurance?
- You may qualify for a subsidy to help pay the monthly premium when you buy the coverage on the new health insurance exchange.
- Payment assistance will also be available for expenses that you pay after receiving medical treatment (such as deductibles, copays, or coinsurance.
You should contact our agency regarding how the new law will effect you if:
- You’ve been denied coverage in the past and are uninsured
- You are uninsured because of the cost of health insurance
- You are insured and would like help paying your premium
Enrollment begins October 1, 2013 for coverage to become effective January 1, 2014
